RAMANA BHAGAVAN’S ‘śeri’
There is a beautiful song in Tamil written on Bhagavan Ramana Maharshi, “āyiram āyiram namaskāram śeivom—let us do thousands and thousands of namaskāra to the great Sage.” This song was written by an elderly saintly man well-known to me. I (Sri Ramanacharanatirtha Nochur Venkataraman) once asked him, “What prompted you to write this song?” He said, “In my younger days, after completing my studies, I was in utter poverty. One day, I went to Sri Ramanasramam. At that time, Bhagavan Ramana Maharshi was walking towards the Ashram from the gośāla. I prostrated before him and sought his blessings, saying, “I am going to seek a job. I need your blessings.” Hearing that the Sage said ‘śeri’ in Tamil, which means ‘alright’. That was enough for me. That one ‘śeri’ from the Sage was like a mantra for me. After this incident, my whole life was a śeri—a ‘Yes’ from Bhagavan. After that, I have only one sādhanā, which is to do thousands of namaskāras to Bhagavan and Arunachala. That bhāva is behind this song.” (Source: Srimad Bhagavad Gita – Elixir of Eternal Wisdom | Vol 1)
