Pavitrananda, Swami (Bhupen Maharaj)—Disciple of Swami Brahmananda (1919). Joined the Order at Belur Math (25.7.1922) and ordained into sannyasa by Swami Shivananda (1923). Participated in flood-relief operations in North Bengal and assisted Swami Akhilananda in South India for 18 months. Joined Mayavati Advaita Ashrama (1925); manager of the publications section at Calcutta for some years; editor of the Prabuddha Bharata (1931-35); head of the Ashrama (1937-48). Trustee of the Math and the Mission and Member, Governing Body (1947); Assistant-Secretary (1944). Accompanied Swami Akhilananda to America (30.1.1951) and Minister-in-Charge, New York Vedanta Society till his passing (1951-77) at the age of 81 (Udbodhan, 79.12…). Works: A Short Life of the Holy Mother, Modern Man in Search of Religion, Common Sense about Yoga, and translation of the Shiva Mahimna Stotra into English.
