Turiyananda then decided to practise sadhana alone at Rajpur, on the Mussoorie Hill of Dehra Dun. Here a police officer thought that Turiyananda was an anarchist posing as a holy man, and asked him all sorts of questions. The swami replied fearlessly, showing his displeasure. At this the police officer said: “How dare you talk that way! Are you not afraid of the police?” Turiyananda immediately burst out: “I afraid! I am not frightened even of Yama, the god of death, what to speak of the police?” The officer then realized that the swami was a genuine monk, and later became his devotee.
