Arupananda: “Mother, people say that our Master is God Eternal and Absolute. What do you say about it?”
Mother: “Yes, he is God Eternal and Absolute to me.”
Arupananda: “It is true that to every woman her husband is God Eternal and Absolute. I have not asked the question in that sense.”
Mother: “Yes, he is God Eternal and Absolute to me as my husband, and in a general way as well.”
Arupananda thought that if Sri Ramakrishna was God Absolute, then Holy Mother must be the Mother of the Universe. She must be the same as the divine consort, like Sita and Rama, Radha and Krishna. So he asked her: “If that is so, then why do I see you preparing chapatis like an ordinary woman? It is maya, I presume. Isn’t that so?”
Mother: “It is maya indeed. Why, otherwise, should I be in this state? I could be in Vaikuntha sitting next to Narayana as Lakshmi.” Then she continued: “You see, God loves to sport as a human being. Krishna was born as a cowherd boy and Rama as a son of Dasharatha.”
Arupananda: “Do you remember your real nature?”
Mother: “Yes, now and then I do. At those times I say to myself: ‘What is this that I am doing?’ Then I look at the house, children, and other family members (gesturing towards them with her palm), and forget my real self.”
