- Go on calling upon Rama and meditate on Him. Rama will arrange everything for you.
- That Rama dwells in all beings; that Rama exists everywhere in the world. I am your servant. That Rama Himself has become all human beings, birds and beasts.
- If you wish to talk to Jadu Mallick, what use is it to know how many houses, how much wealth, how many company shares he has? What is the need of this information? One must somehow enter Jadu Mallick’s house and talk to him, whether one flatters his gatekeepers or is pushed aside by them. If you wish to know about his property or riches, you can know it by asking Jadu Mallick directly! Then you will know it very easily. Rama comes first, His splendour, the world, come later. That is why Valmiki repeated the sacred word Mara: Ma means Ishvara, and ra signifies the world, His splendour.
- A certain person said to Ravana, ‘You have been going to Sita in so many different disguises, why don’t you approach her assuming the form of Rama?’ Ravana replied, ‘If I once behold Rama in the recess of my heart, Rambha and Tilottama (heavenly damsels) appear to me like ashes of the dead burnt at the crematorium. Then I can spurn even the high position of Brahma, not to speak of the beauty of another man’s wife.’
- Do you know who the gopis were? When Ramachandra was roaming in the forest, there were six thousand rishis seated there on whom Ramachandra cast his loving glance. They began to yearn to meet him. In some Puranas it is stated that those very rishis became the gopis.
- Narada said to Rama, ‘Rama, how can Ravana be killed if you stay in Ayodhya? You have come down to earth for that purpose.’ Rama said, ‘Narada, let the right time come. Let Ravana’s past actions begin to bear fruit. Then the ground will be prepared for killing him.’
- Lakshmana said to Lava and Kusha, ‘You are children. You don’t know Ramachandra. By the touch of his feet, the Ahalya who had been turned into a stone became a woman again.’ Lava and Kusha said, ‘Yes sir, we know all this. We’ve heard all about it.’ A stone turned into a human being because of the words of a sage. The sage Gautama had said that in the age of Treta Ramachandra would pass by this ashrama. By the touch of his feet you will again turn into a human being.’ Who can tell now whether it happened because of Rama’s holiness or because of the words of the sage?
Rama’s Will
- Resign, surrender everything to Him. Then there will be no trouble. You will then realize that it is He who does everything. All depends on Rama’s will.
- Whether one is living in the world or has taken sannyas, all is Rama’s will. So, resign yourself to His will and do your duties in the world. A clerk was sent to jail. When the period of his sentence ended, he was released from jail. Now, will he dance joyfully to the beat of the drum, or will he return to his job as a clerk?
- Everything is under the Lord’s control – it is all His lila (divine sport). He has created a variety of things: small, big, powerful, weak, good and bad. Whether a man is good or bad is all His maya, His sport. Don’t you see that all the trees in the garden are not alike?
- No person can become a guru. Everything happens by the will of the Lord. When His grace dawns, the vilest sin, a long-lasting sin, or long-lasting ignorance is dispelled in a moment.
- When a light is suddenly brought into a room that was dark for a thousand years, does the darkness vanish little by little, or does it disappear instantly? Surely, the moment the light is brought in, all darkness is dispelled.
- What can a man do? He can talk a great deal – but eventually everything rests with the Lord. It is like the lawyer, who says, ‘I have said all I have to say. The rest is in the hands of the judge.’
Sita-Rama
- I had a vision of Sita. I saw that her whole mind was given to Rama. She was oblivious to anything else – body, hands, feet, clothes, jewelry, and so on. Her entire life was filled with thoughts of Rama. Without Rama, without having him, she felt she could not survive.
- When I see Purna, I now experience the same feeling that I used to have with Ramlala. I used to bathe Ramlala and feed him and put him to bed. Wherever I went, I took him with me. I would sit and weep for Ramlala.
- Adhyatma (Ramayana) is full of spiritual knowledge and love for God. The Shavari story and Ahalya’s hymn are all full of love for God. But this is a fact. God is far beyond worldliness.
- When Rama couldn’t lift the bow because of his pain of separation from Sita, Lakshmana was astonished. ‘Bound by the five elements, even Brahman laments.’
