The disciples learned a scientific religion from their Master: One must first experiment with the truth, then verify it, and at last accept it. One day Narendra was having a discussion with Kali, Jogin, and Tarak on Hindu prejudices about food and the knowledge of Brahman. He said: “After attaining Self-knowledge, food can be taken from anyone’s hand. Then one cannot look down upon anyone. As long as prejudices persist, Brahman has not been fully realized.” Except for Narendra, none of them had ever eaten Muslim food. “Come, let me break your prejudices today,” Narendra said to his brother disciples. In the evening Narendra took Kali and others to a Muslim restaurant on Beadon Street and ordered chicken curry. After dinner they returned to Cossipore. Later that night Kali related the whole story to the Master who laughed heartily and said: “It is all right. You are now free from all prejudice.” (Source: God Lived with Them)
