As an itinerant monk, Swami Vivekananda used to go about throughout the length and breadth of India with only one piece of cloth and a staff in hand. One day, he came to a railway station altogether tired, having been without food for the whole day. He lay down for sleep at the station. A confectioner in the town had a dream in which his “Chosen deity” (Ishta Devata) appeared and told him that a devotee of His was lying at the station without food and asked him to go there and offer sweets to him. Immediately he took some of his preparations and water and went to the railway station and awakening the Swamiji gave him the sweets. Swamiji wondered at the mysterious ways of Providence.
