A rich young man asked Jesus, ‘Good Master, what shall I do that I may inherit eternal life?’ And Jesus said unto him, ‘One thing thou lackest; go thy way, sell whatsoever thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasures in heaven: and come, take up thy cross, and follow Me.’ And he was sad at that saying and went away grieved; for he had great possessions. We are all more or less like that. The voice is ringing in our ears day and night. In the midst of our pleasures and joys, in the midst of worldly things, we think that we have forgotten everything else. Then comes a moment’s pause and the voice rings in our ears: ‘Give up all that thou hast and follow Me.’ ‘Whosoever will save his life shall lose it; and whosoever shall lose his life for My sake shall find it.’ For whoever gives up this life for His sake, finds the life immortal.
