Daughter of Abhaycharan Mitra of Antpur village in Hooghly district, wife of Taraprasad Ghosh of the same village, mother of Baburam, an apostle of the Master called “Swami Premananda”. Had two other sons Tulsiram and Shantiram and one daughter, Krishnabhabini, married to Balaram Basu, one of the Master’s foremost lay disciples. During a visit to the Master at Dakshineswar when he asked Matangini to give her Baburam to him she considered it an act of grace and in return prayed for unswerving devotion for God and that all her children should survive her, both prayers being granted by the Master. The Holy Mother had said that Matangini Devi having been the only child of her parents inherited paternal property and had left behind four children, one son having died earlier (The Gospel of Holy Mother). Died on 20.10.1917, having observed the traditional ritual of “Ganga-yatra” from Balaram Mandir. Her eldest son Tulsiram died on 31.8.1945 at the age of 87 and the youngest, Shantiram, died at Balaram Mandir on 27.10.1959 at the age of 93, Baburam, Swami Premananda, having died on 30.7.1918. Tulsiram’s son Hareram was the disciple of Holy Mother while Shantiram and his wife were disciples of Swamiji.
