Mother of Holy Mother Sri Sarada Devi. Pious, guileless lady, daughter of Hariprasad Mazumdar of Shihar village and wife of Ramchandra Mukherjee of Jayrambati. She was much distressed at her elder daughter having been married to an eccentric man and being deprived of normal, domestic life and children. The Master had consoled her saying that one day her daughter would come to possess such a great number of children that ultimately their cries of “Mother” would cause her harassment. The Holy Mother, unable to bear her mother’s ceaseless lamentations and condemnations of the Master, is said to have threatened to give up her life as Sati, unable to tolerate the criticism of Shiva, had done in ancient times. Once when the Master was at Kamarpukur Shyamasundari had gone there and the Master, taking from her hand rice offerings to her Ishta, had eaten it. She had visited Dakshineswar with her daughter (1881) but Hridayram had turned them away. At the behest of the Master the conch-shell bangles and sari, etc. offered to Holy Mother by him during Shodashi Puja had been presented by her to her own mother regarding her as Devi Jagadamba. Jagaddhatri appeared to her in a vision and thus initiated her worship at Jayrambati (14.11.1877).
Took loving care of the devotees who thronged her residence at Jayrambati addressing her as “grandmother”. Holy Mother’s comments: “She was like Goddess Lakshmi in running the household. All the year round she would run it with great care, putting by good quality rice and similar commodities for use at the opportune moment, saying ‘My household belongs to God and the devotees; as long as I am there, Brahma is there, so is Vishnu and so is Shiva. As soon as I go they will all go with me, what care can you take of them ?’ ” She is said to have worshipped a picture of the Master towards the end of her life. Died in January 1906.
